I helped many companies (banking, insurance, telecom, electronic payment processors, retail) and organizations (Police, Ministry of Interior, Nictiz, UWV, 9292ov, ...) with solving their problems. In most cases my work involves analyzing huge volumes (up to terabytes) of data (transactions, web-logs, insurance claims, sales records and text documents), building prototype systems (proof-of-concepts) or delivering actual systems. Since a couple of years I am specializing in analyzing data on-the-fly (e.g., detecting in real time fraud or unusual patterns in streams of transactions)  and recommender systems.

In addition to my consultancy work, I worked (part-time) for about 20 years for the VU University Amsterdam, where I helped to set up the Business Mathematics and Informatics curriculum (currently called Business Analytics), developed and taught numerous courses such as Data Mining Techniques, Neural Networks, Machine Learning, Search Techniques, Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, and supervised more than 100 Master projects in my area of expertise.
